Therapeutic Intervention for Children Under Stress Due to Calamities

When Typhoon Sendong struck the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, thousands of survivors were not only  left homeless but severely traumatized as well.  The urgent need for psycho-social support became apparent.

To address this problem, the Mater et Puer Foundation, together with its partner, the PCSO-SEU-PEMBF, provided logistical support to bring in a team of trauma psycho-social experts headed by Mr. Jojet Mondares in order to train volunteers on the basics of debriefing trauma victims, especially children.

The first training was held on December 27-30, 2011 at the Inahan sa Kinabuhi Pastoral Training Center, Iligan City. A similar activity was likewise conducted at Cagayan de Oro City.

In line with the Foundation's continuing commitment to train debriefers, another drill for Basic Therapeutic Storytelling Intervention Workshop for Children Under Stress Due to Calamities was held on April 22-24, 2012 at Iligan City, and on May 7-9, 2012 at Cagayan de Oro City.

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"
