Presentation of I-CHILD Project in Talaingod

Aside from the Children’s Hour Philippines, Inc. (CHPI), Mater et Puer Foundation, Inc. (MePFI) will also be collaborating with the Municipal Officers of Talaingod, Davao del Norte, in the implementation of the I-CHILD project.

The Municipality of Talaingod, Davao del Norte is a second class municipality consisting of three barangays (Barangays Sto. Nino, Palma Gil and Dagohoy) and populated mostly by indigenous peoples belonging to the Ata Manobo tribes.

Malnutrition counts as a major concern among the Ata Manobo children. This is due to poverty and lack of access to health information (considering their geographical location). Another concern is psychological trauma caused by militarization in the area and the “pangayao” or tribal wars. Project I-CHILD seeks to address these issues, including human trafficking and child abuse, through direct assistance (feeding, medical and dental missions), capacity development (seminar workshops for parents, barangay officials, health workers and care workers) and consciousness-raising on health and nutrition.

The project received a warm welcome from the people of Talaingod, led by Mayor Basilio Libayao, Vice Mayor  Michael Manos and other key officials of the local government unit.

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"
